Summer Lax Format
Leagues typically last 8 weeks and happen at the same venue on the same evening every week with each team to play two games.
Summer Lax is adapted from the 6s lacrosse format with some key basic rules:
5 players on a pitch (no goalkeepers), with squads up to 12, all players aged 16+.
Teams should be mixed, with a minimum of 2 men and 2 women on the pitch at all times.
There’s no offside – all players can go anywhere they want within the pitch.
The only exception is the goal circle – players can’t enter the circle around the goal.
You can only use your stick to move the ball by scooping (from the ground) passing, catching and carrying the ball.
You can only have possession of the ball for 5 seconds before you have to move the ball on (you can’t “play to yourself” to restart the count!)
Stick contact is allowed where both teams are experienced players and can safely perform stick checks.
There aren’t any fixed positions for Summer Lax, but you will probably want to have 2 attackers, 1 centre and 2 defenders. You start a game like netball, with players at both ends of the pitch (opposite of football/hockey). There are no goalkeepers in Summer lax, this means that no one is allowed inside the circle around the goal, and defenders can’t act as goalkeepers by standing in the way of a shot.
